AI Adoption Roadmap for Education Institutions

Are you trying to figure out the best path to adopting AI responsibly at your school? We know it can feel like an overwhelming process determining what to prioritize and when to do it.

To help we’ve created our AI Adoption Roadmap for Education Institutions that focuses on how to establish a strong foundation and developing an AI policy, develop your staff and update educational materials, train your students and larger school community, and continuously review how your implementation plan is going to be able to address and progress.

The 4 Phases:

1. Establish a Foundation

  • Host an introductory meeting and GenAI literacy training for district and school leadership, board, and other key stakeholders

  • Create a cross-functional team that includes leaders, teachers, students, and community members to workshop and develop school or district-wide GenAI academic guidelines

  • Review your organization‘s vision and strategy for teaching and learning to identify opportunities for high-impact generative AI integration

2. Develop Your Staff

  • Provide professional development on GenAI Literacy covering how the technology works, its capabilities and limitations, and how teachers and students can responsibly adopt the tools

  • Share the GenAI guidelines draft for feedback and work with teachers on applying them in their practice

  • Collaborate among leaders and teachers to vet the safety and efficacy of available GenAI tools; determine which tools to pilot that are aligned with your organization’s vision and strategy

3. Educate Students & the Community

  • Build common understanding by sharing your GenAI guidelines and how they support your organizational vision with caregivers and community members via newsletters, town halls, etc.

  • Support teachers in updating their syllabi to include the GenAI guidelines and create a plan to introduce pilots of AI tools where appropriate

  • Launch student-facing GenAI Literacy training to upskill students so they are future-ready

  • Provide ongoing trainings focused on embedded, appropriate GenAI use to teachers, students, and the larger school community

4. Assess and Progress

  • Establish metrics and track the impact of GenAI pilots on student outcomes and other organizational priorities

  • Create a cadence to review and reevaluate your GenAI guidelines in light of new advancements

  • Evaluate new GenAI tools for appropriateness for teachers and the classroom to launch additional pilot programs

  • Continuously update and provide GenAI training across the school community; include opportunities to elevate best practices and/or voice concerns
